Week Commencing 21st January

Spring Term 2019.

Week 19

Last week the children practised using scissors. They cut along lines and cut out pictures to help them to become familiar with holding and using them. It is very tricky; we have some crocodile scissors at Pre-school to help the children who find using scissors challenging. These are easier to use and are worked by pressing down on them. Please help your child to practice at home if you have some child friendly scissors. Practice makes perfect!

This week the children will be focusing on the mathematical concept of more and less. We will be doing lots of counting, comparing amounts, weighing and measuring, and using words like “heavy, light and balanced”. We use numbers to count out amounts daily, inside and outside, comparing amounts, more than, less than, the same. We put amounts together and count how many we have.

The children are learning to listen for and identify the letter sound at the beginning of their name. We have been singing the days of the week song and reciting the months of the year. We have 12 pictures of dogs, one for each month of the year and the children like looking at them and talking about which month their birthday is in.

A letter has been sent home about a visit from the “Little Urchin” photographer who will be at Pre-school during the morning on Wednesday 23rd January (this Wednesday). Her name is Vicky and she will be taking a photo of each child dressed in a Fairyland style (Pirates and fairies). She will supply the clothes, hats and props for the children to choose from. Vicky has been coming here for several years now and I have to say that the photos are beautiful and very different. If you know anyone whose child has been to Little Battlers, ask them. Everyone is normally delighted with the results.

If you would like to have a younger sibling on the photo, please come 10 minutes early at the beginning of the session and Vicky will photograph your children together.

On Wednesday 30th January, we are holding an open evening when parents/carers can come into Pre-school from 3.30 – 4.30 to look at their child’s learning journey. Hope to see lots of you, you can bring your children with you, I’m sure they will love showing you their wonderful book.

Library is on Monday.

Music Bugs is on Tuesday

PE is on Friday.

All of these are during session time.

Please remember that for the health, safety and well-being of the children, we kindly ask that all jewellery and toys stay at home.

Please feel free to put any written comments in the suggestion box (on the table as you come in). Don’t forget that there is a “Wow board” to put a comment on about anything achieved at home that you would like to tell us about.

We are always ready to listen and develop our Pre-school with everyone’s help and ideas.

Pre-school Team.
