Weekly Newsletter Week 3

Autumn Term 2018

Week 3

Last week the staffs and children were getting to know each other. We talked about the importance of hand washing and showed them how to access the juice bar. Routines are in place and the children have been learning to sit and listen for short periods. We sing the “I sit ready” song at the beginning of every session. They are all doing really well and seem to enjoy all of the different play activities that are available to them.

We have put out the children’s photos for them to find and put up when they come in to Pre-school. Please help your child when they enter Pre-school everyday. Thank you.

The juice bar is set up on a table in the main room for the children to access during play. Last week the children were shown what to do and encouraged to come for a drink and snack. The children wash their hands and get their own drink and piece of fruit saving their place with their photo during session time.

During session time the children play inside and outside. We have lots of large and small equipment for them to play with. The weather is very changeable at the moment, if it is hot; please apply suntan lotion before your child comes to Pre-school. If it is a cooler day, please send your child with a named jacket/cardigan to wear outside, or a raincoat. Thank you.

Last week we visited the main school library during session time on Monday and your child chose a book to bring home to share with you. We visit the library every Monday. Please make sure that library books are kept in your child’s bookbag ready to change on a Monday.

This year the children will be cooking for a whole week each half term, making a variety of foods to enjoy at snack time. Cooking will be the main learning objective for that week; they will be learning about different foods and trying them. They will also be doing some food tasting to celebrate different events such as Chinese New Year and Pancake Day. To make this possible we would like a one off payment of £20 for the year to enable us to buy all the ingredients, please send this money in if you have not already done so. Please let us know of any food allergies. Thank you.

Some parents have asked if the children will need a PE kit. The answer is “No” - all they will need is a pair of named pumps or trainers. We started our PE sessions on Friday 7th September. PE will be every Friday during session time.

Thank you to everyone that has now sent in a copy of their child’s birth certificate, there are still a few people still to do so, please can I have them this week. Thank you. Last week staffs were asking you to fill in a statement of undertaking. This is so we can access the funding, not everyone has done this yet.

During the last 2 weeks every child has received a blue book to decorate (the front/back cover). This will be their learning journey this year. We have had a few back and they are beautiful, please send your child’s back as soon as you have personalised it. Thank you.

Last week the children started to learn the sitting song:-

I sit ready, I sit ready,

Look at me, look at me.

Sitting down with legs crossed, sitting down with legs crossed,

Quiet as can be, quiet as can be.

The children are also learning the calendar song:-

There are 7 days, there are 7 days, there are 7 days in the week.

There are 7 days, there are 7 days, there are 7 days in the week.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wedneday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday, Saturday.

If your child starts to sing these at home, you can join in too.

Please remember, any worries or queries, you can ask any member of staff and we will do our very best to help you.

Pre-school team.
